Mini-Dental Implants To Restore Your Teeth

Mini-implants can restore your teeth back to it's normal health

Having missing teeth can damage the strength of your jawbone if left untreated for too long. Typically, one of the best ways to replace a missing adult tooth is dental implants. However, if your jaw is not strong enough to hold an implant this can be a difficult procedure. Dr. Stewart and his team in Livonia, MI, offer their patients several options to help return their smile to its normal function.

A Surgical Option To Restore The Jaw

It is important that the jaw is strong enough to hold the stabilizing post. If it is not strong enough, there needs to be solutions available to repair the problem. There are several factors that can cause the structure of your bone to be compromised. If left untreated, periodontal disease can weaken your gums, cause tooth loss, and even make the jawbone less stable. Genetics, aging, and arteritis can also be contributing traits to this problem.

If your bones do not have enough strength to hold an implant, bone grafting is an option available. This procedure can allow volume and density to be added in the weaker areas. In most cases, this can be taken from bone in other parts of the body.

Mini Dental Implants Procedure

Surgery may not be everyone’s first choice to repair their jawbone. That is why in our office, we also offer mini-dental implants (MDIs). This is a very similar solution to the traditional way but is less invasive and requires less healing time. They will also last the same amount of time that a standard one would so long as it is properly cared for.

First, you will go in for a consultation to determine the health and integrity of your jaw and gumline. Once the best type of implant is determined for your needs, the procedure can be scheduled. In some cases, the root of the missing tooth will need to be removed before surgery. Then measurements will be taken for the MDIs to be prepared. The small post will be inserted and then there will be a waiting time for it to stabilize. This will not take as long as a traditional one to heal and fuse to the jawbone. Finally, the last piece can be secured, and you can have your new smile.
