When you lose most or all of your teeth on one or both arches, then this could lead to serious problems with the health and function of your smile, and could even cause an aged appearance! In order to address the issue with a secure and long-lasting solution, your Livonia, MI, dentist may recommend implant dentures, including Teeth-In-A-Day!
The Dangers of Total Tooth Loss
When we lose most of our teeth, or all of them, this impacts what we can and cannot eat. Being forced to subsist mainly on soft foods means depriving your body of not only your favorite meals, but many vitamins and nutrients, too. You could also develop trouble speaking clearly, and for some, the loss of jawbone density due to tooth loss could cause an aged appearance, with the onset of sunken cheeks, a ptotic chin, and other signs of aging. To return smiles to optimal function, health, and beauty, you need tooth replacement!
Creating a Prosthetic
The portion people see when you smile, the prosthetic, will be custom-made specifically for your smile. We start by taking detailed impressions and measurements of your smile, which we use in the design and fabrication process. If you have a base, we will create it from acrylic to mimic gum tissue. The teeth will be made from durable and lifelike materials, such as porcelain, to ensure stability, durability, and of course, a natural appearance.
Securing Smiles with Dental Implants
The prosthetic will attach to dental implants, which we insert into the jawbone. Being made from titanium, a biocompatible material, means they bond with the jawbone tissue. This allows them to last for decades, possibly a lifetime, and also stimulates the growth of jawbone tissue to prevent loss of mass and density and preserve your facial structure, fighting the signs of aging that would otherwise arise due to tooth loss. Typically, we insert between six and eight per arch, but we have other options for people that have lost jawbone tissue that rely on fewer posts.
Teeth-In-A-Day
Sometimes, the process means first inserting dental implants and then waiting a period of months before adding the final prosthetic. However, for some we have Teeth-In-A-Day, in which we insert the new roots and attach a prosthetic in the same visit, so you leave with a complete smile! If you have any questions, then give us a call!
