Answer Key
- True. Full dentures are typically held in place with natural suction, or possibly the assistance of a special adhesive. They consist of a full set of lifelike teeth and an acrylic base that mimics the appearance of natural gum tissue. They can be removed for cleaning and maintenance and last for between five and ten years before requiring adjustment or replacement.
- True. Instead of relying on suction, we can insert between six and eight implants per arch. After the placement area heals, we attach the completed prosthetic to them. The resulting denture will be fixed firmly in place and won’t slip during meals or speech. You also won’t have to remove them to clean them.
- True. When you lose teeth and the body notice the lack of tooth roots, the flow of nutrients is suspended. The jawbone then dissolves, causing the patient to lose additional teeth and develop an older appearance. However, the implants we place are recognized as natural roots, which means the flow of calcium and phosphorus resumes, preserving the facial structure in the process.
