We recently talked about how dental implants help replace individual missing teeth. However, we can also use them to secure a prosthetic that never slips, and lasts for many years to come. In today’s blog, your Livonia, MI, dentist is going to explain how implant dentistry can provide bridges and dentures, and sometimes in only one visit!
The Implant Posts and Prosthetics
Dental implants are optimal for tooth replacement because they don’t require replacement themselves every few years and prevent negative changes to your facial structure, which often happens once we lose teeth. Instead, we insert titanium implant posts onto the jawbone, which signals the body to resume the flow of key nutrients, a flow that stops once a tooth is missing. These nutrients then stimulate the growth of jawbone structure, which protects your current facial structure and lets your new tooth or teeth last for decades to come. Along with individual tooth replacement, we can support prosthetics too!
Bridges
For those with multiple missing teeth, but not enough to benefit from a set of dentures, we could recommend a bridge. The bridge replaces between one and the teeth in a row. With implant support, this could last for decades. The prosthetic we attach to the new roots will be custom-made to ensure a proper fit, good bite balance, and of course, a natural-looking appearance.
Full and Partial Dentures
We can also address more severe cases of tooth loss, supporting a full or partial set of dentures to restore the function and beauty of your smile once again. Typically, they could rely on between six and eight post per arch. But if you’re lost enough tissue to that this isn’t possible, we could offer alternatives. All-On-4® and Mini Implants need less jawbone structure to stay in place, but still offer the benefits of a traditional implant dentures. In fact, for some patients we can place these options and add a prosthetic in the same visit, so you leave with a complete smile in one visit.
