When you lose missing teeth, and also mass and density in the jawbone, then traditional dental implant dentures may not be enough. Instead, your smile may benefit from Mini Implants. In today’s blog, your Livonia, MI, dentist talks about the benefits of addressing your tooth loss and enjoying a complete smile again!
When a Traditional Option Isn’t Enough
Dental implant dentures not only offer a fixed option that never slips when you eat and speak, but they can last for decades to come, or possibly a lifetime. However, the traditional option will use between six and eight dental implant posts per arch. These bond with the jaw and act as new roots, preventing loss of mass and density. However, if the jawbone has weakened due to tooth loss, there may not be enough tissue to support new roots and a prosthetic. At one time, your only option was to undergo jawbone grafting and sinus lifts to create new tissues to support the traditional version. However, we have an alternative with Mini Implants, one that could prevent you from needing grafting or sinus lifts!
Creating Mini Implants
These options are smaller than traditional options, and are more economical and affordable as well. With this option, we take detailed digital images of your smile to plan the position and angle of your new roots. We then insert fewer posts per arch. They’re still able to stimulate the growth of the jawbone and allow a stable support for a full set of dentures. The procedure requires a shorter healing period too! In fact, in many cases we can attach a completed prosthetic to them in the same visit.
Your New Prosthetic
What about the denture portion? This will of course be custom-made based on detailed digital images and x-rays we take of your smile. We create them to ensure your prosthetic not only looks natural, but fits comfortably and restores your ability to smile with confidence and eat your favorite foods again. The teeth will be made from ceramic, which can absorb daily bite forces and can be color-matched too. The bae is made from acrylic and designed to look like gum tissue.
