The Advantages of Mini-Implants

We’ve found that sometimes people with tooth loss don’t have enough jawbone tissue to support the traditional number of implants needed to provide a fixed denture. However, to help these patients your Livonia, MI, dentist does offer a unique alternative: Our mini-implants!

The Loss of Mass and Density in Your Smile

When we suffer from tooth loss, the body responds by suspending the flow of key nutrients, including calcium and phosphorus, to the jawbone. Without these nutrients, the bone tissue begins to break down, causing further tooth loss and for some, an aged appearance. The loss of mass and density in your smile could mean that you don’t have enough jawbone tissue to support traditional dental implants, forcing you to rely on removable prosthetics that require replacement every five to ten years, and don’t halt the factors that could cause negative changes to your facial structure. Fortunately, we may have an alternative that helps!

Placing Your Mini-Implants

Like traditional dental implants, these are biocompatible post made from titanium that will be inserted into the jawbone through oral surgery. However, these are smaller, and fewer are placed. We use digital technology to plan and guide the process, ensuring your new roots and absorb daily bite forces, stimulate the growth of bone tissue, and preserve your smile. We then attach a custom-made prosthetic to them, with lifelike teeth and often a base made from acrylic, ensuring your new teeth look natural and reflect your unique facial structure.

Protecting Your New Smile

Following placement, you need to maintain good oral hygiene. Not only does this help fight issues like bad breath, but could limit the factors behind tooth loss and implant failure. You should continue to brush and floss each and every day, working around your new prosthesis. We will offer instructions on how to best do this. You should also schedule a visit every six months to see us for a checkup and cleaning, so we can remove any harmful buildup of plaque and tartar, and keep an eye on the stability of your new tooth roots and dentures. If you have any questions about preventing tooth loss, or about finding a solution that works best for your smile, then contact our team today. We want to help you greet a new year with a full and beautiful new smile.
