Replacing Individual Missing Teeth With Implants

When you lose a tooth, you need to seek a replacement before complications arise that could lead to more missing teeth. To help fill the exposed gap in your smile, we may recommend a dental implant and crown. In today’s blog, your Livonia, MI, dentist talks about solutions to a single missing tooth.

The Benefits of Replacing a Lost Tooth

A single lost tooth is still a very serious concern for the health and stability of your smile! The gap could cause the nearby teeth to move from position, causing misalignment that further harms your health and appearance. You could have trouble with eating and speaking, and could simply feel embarrassed about your appearance. The body will also suspend the flow of certain nutrients to the bone around the lost tooth. The jawbone then begins to lose mass and density, causing further tooth loss with time! When you lose a tooth, please let us know right away so we can help with a dental implant.

Dental Implants and Crowns

After we examine your smile and gather digital x-rays and intraoral digital images, we will be able to choose the right angle and position to insert the dental implant post into the jawbone. The post acts as a new root, and being made of biocompatible materials, will bond with the jawbone. This allows it to be supported like a natural root, and also prevent the loss of mass and density, as the body resumes the flow of calcium and phosphorus to the jaw. We then attach an abutment to the post. The abutment will extend above the gum line and allow us to connect the restoration. The custom-made dental crown will be designed to look and function like a natural tooth, and will blend with your smile seamlessly. We use ceramic for its lifelike appearance and durability.

What About Multiple Missing Teeth?

If you have multiple missing teeth, then you may not need an implant post per missing tooth. Instead, we could use one or two to support a dental bridge, or between four and eight per arch to secure a full set of dentures, ensuring you have a complete smile again. These prosthetics will be fixed in place, never slipping or requiring removal for cleaning. If you have any questions, then give us a call today.
